We're a Mom, a Daughter, and a Whole Lot of Cats

Purrbobbin Co. is a little mother-daughter company built around something that has been a huge part of both of our lives for as long as we can remember:

Cats.

We love cats.

We have always loved cats.

We will probably always love cats.

And with seven cats of our own, it's safe to say that cats aren't just pets in our house. They're part of pretty much everything we do.

Our home is full of cats. Our conversations are about cats. Our cameras are full of pictures of cats. Our clothes are covered in cat hair. Someone is probably sitting where we need to sit. Someone else is yelling for absolutely no reason. And at any given moment, at least one of the seven is almost certainly doing something they're not supposed to be doing.

We wouldn't have it any other way.

Two Artists Who Make Things

We're also both artists and lifelong makers.

Purrbobbin grew from the idea of combining those parts of our lives. We wanted to take the things we draw and turn them into something tangible, handmade, and meant for the animals we adore so much.

So that's what we're doing.

We create our own artwork and turn our drawings into fabric designs. Then, right here at home, that fabric becomes cat toys made by our own hands.

We draw.

We cut.

We sew.

We stuff.

We inspect.

We package.

And we send each order on its way from our little corner of Mangum, Oklahoma.

There isn't a big team behind Purrbobbin.

It's us.

Made for Cats, by People Who Really Love Cats

When we started Purrbobbin, we didn't just happen to choose cat toys as something to sell.

We chose cat toys because we genuinely love cats.

We know what it's like to buy them a beautiful new toy only to discover they're more interested in the box.

We know the sound of a cat having an extremely important meeting with itself in another room at 3 a.m.

We know that one cat will delicately pat a toy while another approaches play like it's a personal vendetta.

And with seven very different little personalities living under the same roof, we have a pretty enthusiastic feline focus group.

Cats are funny, weird, affectionate, dramatic, independent, ridiculous little creatures.

That's why we love them.

The Art Is Part of the Fun

Purrbobbin isn't only about sewing cat toys. The artwork matters to us, too.

The designs on our fabrics come from our own drawings, illustrations, characters, and ideas. That means we get to start with a blank page and eventually see that little drawing become an actual toy.

There is something wonderfully satisfying about that.

A Purrbobbin toy begins as an idea.

Then it becomes a drawing.

The drawing becomes a design.

The design becomes fabric.

And eventually, we're sitting at a sewing machine turning that fabric into something destined to be bunny-kicked across somebody's living room.

That's a pretty good job.

A Mother-Daughter Business

More than anything, Purrbobbin is something we're building together.

We don't need our individual names to be the face of the company. Purrbobbin belongs to both of us.

It's our artwork, our sewing, our ideas, our cats, our slightly cat-hair-covered workspace, and our little family business.

We're starting small because that's exactly how we want to start.

One drawing.

One piece of fabric.

One toy.

One order.

One very spoiled cat at a time.

We hope Purrbobbin grows over the years. We hope to make more toys, create more ridiculous cat things, meet other people who love their cats as much as we love ours, and see our little drawings find their way into homes far beyond ours.

But however much Purrbobbin grows, we want the heart of it to stay the same.
